Abour project

Pulse Records is an independent New York record label representing a roster of boundary-pushing artists across electronic, jazz and experimental music. Founded by a collective of musicians and producers tired of the major label machine, they came to Glyph Co. ready to build a brand identity and motion system that could hold its own in one of the most visually competitive industries in the world. The scope covered full brand identity, a typographic system, motion guidelines and a suite of animated assets for use across digital and physical touchpoints.

The challenge

Music branding lives and dies by authenticity. A label identity that feels designed rather than felt is immediately rejected by the audience it is trying to reach. Pulse needed an identity that could communicate credibility and independence to a highly design-literate audience, while remaining flexible enough to stretch across album artwork, social content, stage visuals and merchandise without losing its integrity.

The approach

We built the Pulse identity around movement and tension — a typographic system where letters feel like they are in constant motion, reflecting the energy of the music itself. The wordmark was developed with deliberate optical imbalance, creating a sense of forward momentum. The motion system established a set of animation principles and timing curves that gave every asset a consistent kinetic personality. Everything was designed to feel alive, unpredictable and unmistakably Pulse.

The outcome

Pulse Records launched their new identity ahead of their biggest release of 2025 and the response from both the music and design communities was immediate. The brand was featured in three music and design publications within the first two weeks of launch and the animated assets generated significant organic engagement across social channels. Two of the label's artists cited the new brand identity as a factor in their decision to sign with Pulse over larger competing labels.
